Cable TV and satellite TV – which is the best system? It is a battle between cable and satellite TV. Today, consumers can choose between conventional cable TV, digital cable television, and all digital satellite TV. Do you know that is the TV system is best for you? Compared to cable and satellite TV is head to head.

Cable TV and digital cable TV
It is clear that conventional cable television, by far, are the least developed. Similar to satellite TV, cable TV provides limited options for their customers. Therefore, most cable companies already do everything possible to help customers in their digital systems to compete with satellite TV provider in the market. Digital cable television has many advantages over conventional cable. Through digital cable signals to consumers in high-speed Internet and video on demand are available, and hundreds of cable channel options.

Satellite TV
Most of the features of digital cable TV are available, which offers satellite TV. Example? major networks offer their own version of high-speed Internet through broadband. Direcway Dish Network and DirecTV has partnered with EarthLink to offer high-speed Internet to bring their clients. In addition, satellite TV providers also provide electronic program guide, parental control, timer and automated.

Here are major comparisons of cable TV and satellite TV:

Cable TV versus satellite television: Popularity
Both cable and satellite TV are popular. Although the cable is still more popular satellite TV in general has made tremendous strides in cable television. Equipment Cable TV systems require a network cable to be installed in the home. If the street has no cable you need to wait a while before it is available in your area. Besides the cable you need a receiver. With digital services you need an extra course. Satellite TV is a satellite dish, receiver and antenna cable to your TV (no digging in the garden).

Cable TV vs. Satellite TV: the reception quality
Cable TV and satellite TV used totally different systems for signal transmission. Cable TV has analog channels and even upgrade to digital services, analog channels are still analog, that is, an image often blurred. Satellite TV is completely digital, so all the advantages of digital systems. Very heavy rain or snow for a brief reception, but generally this happens very rarely. reception quality is much better with satellite TV.

Cable TV versus satellite television: Programming
Cable TV and satellite TV both served high quality. Cable TV may be 260 to channels. Satellite TV channels can be more. Satellite TV is also more advanced in HDTV (high definition television) services.

Cable TV versus satellite television: Prices
The prices of cable and satellite TV have huge differences. Satellite TV is cheaper than cable television because of the many additional costs associated with Cable TV: franchise fees, taxes, plus the cost of a pay-per-view and material costs. The DISH Network programming package starts at just $ 29.99 a month.

Cable TV versus satellite television interactive services
In general, satellite TV has more interactive services on cable television. digital services such as Dish Network DVR (Digital Video Recorder), the ability to rewind while recording even in live broadcasts are feeding EPG (Electronic Program Guide), Hot weather, video on demand, etc all available in the satellite television, but not everyone in the cable television.

Cable TV versus satellite television, high speed Internet
Cable is a broadband service to high-speed Internet. Satellite has this too, but more slowly. DirecTV: offers Direcway High Speed Internet, an ultra fast but somewhat expensive. Overall conclusion: Satellite TV is less expensive, has better picture quality (digital signal) and offers more channels and programming options for cable television

Entertainment promotions provide your company with a powerful platform from which you can harness your audience’s unquenchable desire for digital entertainment. New movies continue to draw enormous crowds. Rising music artists continue to grab the entertainment spotlight. Custom promotions can be designed to deliver digital incentives that leverage the popularity of Hollywood blockbusters, music artists, high-profile television programs, and video games. Your target market is already exposed to these entertainment channels. Entertainment promotions give you a unique opportunity to tap into those channels.

A growing number of companies are launching entertainment promotions as a cost-effective strategy for reaching their target audience. You can do the same.

In this article, we’ll describe the most popular entertainment promotions and explain how you can leverage them. We’ll also take a closer look at creating custom promotions with specific digital content that delivers a memorable interactive experience to consumers. Lastly, we’ll explain how radio promotions and entertainment promotions can dovetail with one another to build promotional momentum and connect with your audience.

Types Of Entertainment Promotions At Your Fingertips

Consider the entertainment channels to which your audience connects. Then, think about the enormous breadth of content they consume through those channels. Each highly-anticipated movie, prominent music artist, and popular television show gives your company an opportunity to connect with viewers and fans. Entertainment promotions deliver digital content that builds upon the popularity and anticipation surrounding these entertainment outlets.

For example, your company can offer music downloads that target fans of an artist who is launching a high-profile tour. Or, you can offer skins, images, videos, and similar digital incentives to ride the wave of anticipation behind an upcoming movie. Each year, blockbuster video games are released that capture that market segment by storm. You can launch entertainment promotions that cater specifically to that market.

How Brand Promotions Leverage Your Brand Identity

All companies have a brand identity. The problem is, most squander it; they rarely leverage their brands effectively to promote their products and build market awareness. Brand promotions integrate core elements of your brand into digital entertainment incentives. When consumers download images, videos, music, and other digital content that share a link with your products, the experience strengthens your brand in their minds. It engages them through a promotional channel that encourages them to purchase your products. By associating your brand with popular entertainment incentives, you’ll also enjoy increased customer loyalty.

Entertainment Promotions: Creating Custom Promotions For Your Company

One of the unique strengths of an entertainment promotion is flexibility in design. They can be customized to fit a refined approach. This is critical because your target market is entirely different than others. The connection you enjoy with your audience is unique.

Custom promotions give you an opportunity to deliver digital incentives that meet a tightly-honed objective. Rather than delivering a vast menu of content choices to consumers, these promotions focus on a specific subset. That allows you to hone your campaign and create a stronger connection with your audience. The more refined your offer, the easier it is to appeal to your market.

How Radio Promotions And Entertainment Promotions Work Together

Radio has traditionally been reserved for promoting artists and their labels. However, music labels, sponsors, brands, and retail giants have discovered that radio promotions offer mutually beneficial advantages. For example, you can launch an entertainment promotion that builds upon the anticipation behind an upcoming album release. As the first songs are released on the radio, your promotion can offer free downloads as a consumer incentive. Given that radio stations serve limited geographic areas, your entertainment promotions can target specific cities, improving the refinement of your customer database.

Connecting With Your Audience Through Entertainment Digital Promotions

The world is moving at a faster pace than ever. People are consuming content with their laptops and mobile devices in ways that were unimaginable a few years ago. While many companies seem intimidated by the shift, this new landscape has yielded exciting promotional opportunities. Entertainment promotions leverage this new paradigm and bridge the gap between your brand and your customers. You can form a unique connection with your audience by building upon the popularity of movies, music, video games, and other entertainment content.

Digital entertainment promotions allow you to exploit an inexhaustible pool of licensed digital content. They are an ideal platform from which to connect with your target audience, build brand exposure, and dramatically increase customer loyalty.

Just a few years ago, home entertainment had an entirely different meaning than it does now. In fact, the first home entertainment system was the family radio, where you would sit around as a family and listen to shows that were broadcast. The choices were somewhat limited. Now we are entering an age where our entire lives will be digital, including our home and how we entertain ourselves while in our homes. Now, houses come built with a theater room that can be completely set up with video and sound to mimic that of an actual theater, thus providing a monumental home entertainment experience.

This article will examine just how far the idea of home entertainment has come and now, how the idea of media delivery is transitioning from an actual piece of media, like a compact disc, DVD, and even the new Bluray, into a completely different animal, streaming media.

Traditional Home Entertainment Ideas

Just to rewind a little in order to appreciate the newest and hottest technology that is out, I’d like to just point out some of the older forms of home entertainment. I’m going to skip from the early radio and TV eras into the origins of actually setting up an entertainment hub in the home. Partly this is because of the introduction of the television in the home. Before the television, families were forced to basically invent ways to entertain themselves. If we could go back in time, to the 50′s lets say, and show a family a modern day home with a fully decked out theater room, can you imagine their reaction! We’ve evolved from books and board games, which I still enjoy, to radio, to TV, to fully stocked theaters in our houses.

Origins Of The Home Theater

The original home theaters usually consisted of an oversized cathode ray tube television set, a couch, maybe a recliner, and there weren’t too many options for sound other than the speakers on the television set. The main source of media would have been delivered from over-the-air signals, then from cable (if you could afford it), and also from your home VHS or BETA player. This set-up probably describes most dens or home living rooms from the middle 80′s through the middle 90′s. Several companies saw the potential of the living room as a major source for revenue. Sony, KLH, JVC, AIWA, and Yamaha electronics companies were some of the pioneers in the home theater market that started to produce products specifically marketed for creating your own home theater in your house. The latest two editions to the home entertainment room are the DVD player, which replaced the VHS, and now the Sony Bluray players. There was a brief war between Sony and Toshiba for High Definition format superiority, but Sony’s Bluray Player won that war.

Now a home theater room can come fully equipped with oversized plasma televisions, LED televisions, and gigantic movie screens with accompanying 1080p video projectors suspended from the ceiling. That old sofa has been replaced with specialized seating that included media room recliners and sectional sofa recliner combination furniture, all to enhance the viewing experience. Not to leave out the sound, you can now have your audio delivered in up to 7.1 channels of crystal clear sound. You can hear the bullets whizzing by your head, don’t forget to duck! Now the home theater is headed for an all new destination, an all new digital destination and you can get there wirelessly.

Your Living Room And Streaming Media Players

The whole idea of having a DVD tower in the living room and picking a movie, and plugging it into a DVD player of some sort is rapidly dying. The digital media player is taking over what was once the homes of the DVD and now the Bluray players on the shelf under the television. The first real media streamer came from Netflix, when they offered a set top box that allowed the user to have access to thousands of movies, streamed over the internet directly to your TV, and you could view the movies in high definition. Then Microsoft started to offer different content downloads through the Xbox. Sony also eased into this market through the PlayStation 3, by making some games and movies downloadable, as well as add on content.

The idea has been there for the past few years, but only until this year have we seen a major boom in media HD Media players, digital media adapters, and digital media receivers. It really has been just a matter of time. People have been storing their own home movies and music on their computers for years, and as the home theater room evolved, so did the consumers’ need to be able to access their media content not only in the living room or entertaining room, but now that need has grown to be able to access content in every room of the house. The demand has become even greater for the HD media player with the ability to back up personal DVD collections on your own PC. Now whole movie collections are stored on terabyte drives and can be accessed with these digital media players. As an example, The Patriot Box Office HD, with the wireless adapter, can connect wirelessly to your home network router and give you access to your media content. It outputs video at 1080p TrueHD and also outputs Dolby Digital sound. These digital media streamers not only play content from your network, but also support services such as YouTube, Google Video, Yeoh, and Hulu.

Upcoming Thoughts

In the next few years, it is my theory that over 80% of the content that we view in our home entertainment rooms and living rooms will be streamed over the internet directly to us. If television manufacturers want to keep pace, I think that eventually the televisions will come with built in media streamers and the ability to communicate wirelessly with home networks. As the ability to transfer information wirelessly gets faster and faster, I think we will see jumps in entertainment technology. The industries of Cable and Broadcast media will take the biggest hits in the next few years also, just like the music industry in the early 2000′s. This time I think we could see some companies just go under or change. They will have to change the way they deliver media to their customers, because if the service gets too far behind the demand, consumers will always find a way to get what they want.

There are two types of satellite tv systems. One is Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) and the other is TeleVision receive only (TVRO). Let’s talk briefly about each type of system.

The Direct Broadcast system is done in what is called the Ku-Band. Stronger power signals are transmitted by these satellites because they operate on a higher frequency. With DBS, they can use smaller satellite dishes. An 18″ dish is large enough to receive all satellite TV signals. If a person has a very clear view on the south side of their residence, a 10th floor apartment can have satellite TV. The DBS system is used by various satelite TV providers, including Dish Network. This small, low maintenance satellite dish is favorable for anyone. It doesn’t get in the way and it it is aimed at only one satellite. Unlike some of the larger satellite TV dishes, it only has one feed. No free channels are accessible in Direct Broadcast because often times these satellite dishes are use by satellite TV providers-like Dish Network. DBS is simple and inexpensive; therefore, it is ideal for anyone. Sometimes this satellite TV dish can be installed free. It has easy instructions for installation. If you get a qualified installer who knows where to get the satellite dish and the installation tools, you are set. It will take him only a matter of minutes to install your DBS satellite TV dish.

Now, what about TeleVision Receive Only (TVRO) systems. These are sometimes called Big Dish TV, BUD (Big Ugly Dish), and C-Band. This type of system was the very first satellite TV system on the market for home viewers. These systems need a larger TV dish (3 to 6 feet in diameter). They work in C-Band frequencies (around 4 G Hertz). These frequencies have much longer wave lengths than the Ku-Band. That is why the satellite TV dish must be larger.

The TVRO satelite also has to be movable. It picks up its channels from multiple satellites. There are not nearly as many channels accessible through C-Band as through Ku-Band. One favorable feature is that the TVRO system does get free channels. Also, you can receive independent feeds from different companies. For example, if a news crew was covering a story in the area of the satellite, you could get an unedited version of that story with TVRO satellite TV. These news crews send their signals to headquarters by use of a C-Band. TVRO satellite systems are many times used by people who have space rented on the satellite for only a limited amount of time.

With TVRO, material that has not been edited can be transported from one continent to another. They can also be used to transport such material within the same continent.

So, here you have two different TV systems. Each has its own advantages. Each system is constructed in its own unique way but they function differently. It all depends on what is right for you.

Two of the major providers to purchase are Dish Network and DIRECTV. Let’s look at what you can get with each provider, then, you can choose whichever (if either) is best for you.

Dish Network, first of all offers no hidden fees in their pricing-They lay it all on the table for you. For $19.99 per month (limited guarantee) you get a 2 room system with Dish Family Program Package. The price includes free installation and equipment. Dish TV offers various low rate packages that can fit anyone’s budget. You may receive free Dish programming for three months and you can add the High Definition Package for $10.00 per month to any higher programming packages like Dish Latino or America’s Top. With this addition you get 4 free rooms of Free Dish Satellite Equipment installed. You also get a free 2 room Dish Receiver. With Dish, $5.98 per month, you can get the Dish DVR advantage package (your programming-Dish Latino or America’s Top is bundled together with local TV channels). You can also receive Dish Home Protection Plan for 9 months free.

Dish network offers a variety of programs including movies, sports, public interest, news, religious, entertainment, music, home shipping networks and pay-per-view programs. There are more than 30 movie channels that are commercial free-Cinemax, HBO, Starz, and Showtime.

About DIRECTV-It is definitely number 1 in outstanding TV programming, entertainment programs, technology, and customer service. DIRECTV has over 15 million users.

Aside from the well-known satellite TV providers, Dish Network and DIRECTV, there is also the option of free satellite TV (for at least portions of your services). The free satellite TV choices include acquiring free installation and equipment and paying a monthly rate for the service, getting free satellite through your personal computer and buying a low cost satellite card, and purchasing satellite equipment, then tapping into free Satellite TV feeds. Each of these three choices provide some free services but there is a certain monetary amount to be paid out for services also.

You can attain a low cost satellite card and receive TV through your computer system. It has very good reception and a very clear picture because you satellite card that is installed decodes the satellite signal.

You can opt to buy equipment to receive satellite signals to your television. Most of what you are able to pick up with this option is Christian channels, ethnic programs, and local broadcasting.

Probably, the best option is to attain free equipment, then pay each month for service. This satellite TV option is the most versatile in channels.

Make your decision on free satellite based on what is the most you can get for your money in setting up this free satellite system. Get help by visiting your consumer electronics.

Many of us are familiar with the term satellite, but do we actually know what satellite is? A satelite is a huge and bulky object which when launched in space revolves around the planet in a circular or an elliptical path. Satellite is used for many purposes such as communication, weather forecast, astrology and so on. But in today’s world satellites are mainly used for broadcasting business and hence the use of satellite TV is increased to a great extent. It is a type of boon to television industry its users and to the whole world. Satellite television has definitely created a new revolution which will go a long way. To watch satellite tv is a completely new experience.

Cable television did not provide much satisfaction. The broadcasting service provided by the local cable operator was not up to desired standard. Also the maintenance created lot of problems which lead to increase in customer complains. The problem was mainly because of the long cable wires connected to the TV sets from service station to ones home. Also the picture and the audio quality provided by the local cable operator were not up to the mark. This was going to be an obvious problem because when the broadcasting signal was transmitted from cable operator to its subscribers TV set, the signal needed to travel a long distance through huge cable wires which lead to the introduction of noise signals because of the atmospheric condition. This noise signal was responsible for the degradation of audio and noise quality of broadcasting channels. But after the introduction of satellite TV the scenario completely changed. To watch satellite tv it provides a very high digital quality.

The audio also has Dolby digital quality. To Watch satellite TV most of the problem are solved which where associated with earlier broadcasting methods. satellite TV provides strong and digital quality signal to the customer television set’s who were subscribed with them. Now days the satellite TV system do not require long cable wires to be connected to them, they have become completely wireless. In early days of satellite TV the system used to come along with dish antenna in order to focus a particular signal. The charge of broadcasting on satellite TV was also very nominal as compared to the local service provider charged. This was also the main reason that attracted maximum number of customers. Customers who watch satellite tv avails facilities of viewing international channels.

Having so many advantage over normal local broadcasting service has truly attracted many customers and still attracting more. Who would not like to have a TV, showing very high digital quality picture and sound as if we were watching it live? satellite TV made this thing possible. To watch satellite TV is not just fun this days it has become a trend now. So we should all be thankful to the technology because of which watching satellite TV has become possible which otherwise would still have remain in our dreams. The decision to watch satellite tv or cable tv is totally depended on you.

Ever wondered why we have satellite television? I know I have, particularly when we already have terrestrial or broadcast television available. They both seem very similar, the only difference being that with satellite you get lots more choice of channel. Of course there is cable television too, a fierce competitor for both services, but in this article I am going to stick to satellite television.

The local terrain and the curvature of the earth limit terrestrial TV signals in the area that they can server. Both terrestrial and Satellite TV use essentially the same kind of signals but by beaming the signal from above, one satellite is able to serve a wider area. This is why satellite television has become popular in remote areas where it isn’t practical to serve people with a land based antenna and certainly not economic to provide cables to those areas.

Using satellites to broadcast the TV signals solves the problem. Orbiting more than 22,000 miles above the ground they revolve around the Earth once every 24hrs, which is the same time as it takes the planet to make one complete rotation. Therefore the satellite will always stay above the same spot on the ground and it is said to be in geostationary orbit. Because the satellite is very high in the sky the transmission of the signal reaches large numbers of customers and people that are in normally remote and inaccessible places are able to take advantage. The satellites not only transmit direct back to the ground, but they are also in communication with each other, making a huge network to distribute to the largest possible numbers of people. Because the satellite is geostationary you only need to set your TV satellite dish once, in the best position to receive a signal. You shouldn’t ever have to move it again.

It is possible to set up a satellite dish on you property and receive signals from a number of different satellites, often for free. To do this you will need a dish that can be moved to point at the satellite you want to receive signals from. Some satellites of interest to amateurs aren’t even geostationary so you can only get signals from them for part of the day and your dish needs to be able to track the satellite as it moves across the sky. Most people however want to receive signals for entertainment with the least amount of fuss and so they subscribe to paid ‘Direct Broadcast Satellite’ (DBS) services like DirecTV, Dish or Sky (UK). The premium channels streamed from these satellite networks are encrypted so you need special equipment to view them and you pay for the encryption key to unlock the decoder.

Satellite TV companies make money from their networks in a variety of ways. There are three methods that are in general use today.

Advertising Organisations pay the network to broadcast adverts. We all hate it but it does pay for our entertainment, or part of it at least.

Subscriptions Paying a monthly fee for the right to be able to view channels that are encrypted. Your subscription generally gets you a smart card that is programmed with the decryption information and inserted into your receiver box.

TV Licence Fee If you are in the UK and you have equipment that is capable of receiving TV signals then the law states you must pay for a TV licence. Note that you don’t have to use the equipment; you just have to possess it. The money from the licence fee goes to pay for the British Broadcasting Company or BBC and in return we don’t see any advertising or encryption on any BBC channels. This was a good idea in the early days of radio and TV and it helped to produce and maintain high standards of broadcasting all over the world. My personal opinion now however is that the licence fee is nothing more than yet another tax that we have to pay and I feel that the BBC should begin to stand on it’s own two feet. I doubt that it will happen anytime soon though.

If a broadcaster uses only advertising to pay for their service then you may receive and view the signals without payment or subscription. If you live in the UK you still have to pay the licence fee though. There are five components needed to link the programme makers and the satellite television customer:

Distribution The DBS provider does not create the programmes themselves, they pay for the right to be able to broadcast them via satellite television. They act as a ‘middleman’ between the ‘programming sources’ or channels and you.

Satellite Television Provider Signals from the broadcast centre sources are received by the provider and transmitted to the network of satellites in orbit.

Satellites The signals are received by the satellite network and retransmitted back to Earth.

Receiving equipment Equipment normally provided by the DBS to allow you to receive the signal from the satellite above. A receiving dish must be professionally installed somewhere on your property.

Decoding and viewing A box near your TV will take the signal received and decode your chosen channels into a form that you can watch.

I bet you never realised that there was so much involved in satellite television. It is indeed a marvel of technology and provides us with high quality up to date entertainment from all over the world. Television technology has come a very long way in such a short time.

We are already at the end of the first decade of the 21st century, and radio, TV and Internet broadcasting jobs have not become extinct. Some say that there will be fewer available radio and TV broadcasting jobs throughout the next decade, however others disagree.

With the push for higher education and specialized skills, an education in broadcasting is highly valued. So what does one do with a broadcasting education? Where should recent graduates go to find the best broadcasting jobs in the United States and beyond?

Broadcasting schools and journalism departments all have job placement resources for upcoming graduates and new graduates. However, if these leads are not enough or do not offer the type of job graduates want, there are other resources. Current newspapers and the Website Current.org have updated job boards listing the most current broadcasting jobs including broadcasting management, production, programming, marketing and development.

Looking to transfer or experience another type of broadcasting job? Search the Corporation for Public Broadcasting’s Website for television or radio jobs by state. Browse broadcasting jobs from Alaska to Virginia and everywhere in between for the most suitable work environment. Recently listed broadcasting jobs include news editor, senior accountant, executive web producer, and television station coordinator. Another option is to search a specific public broadcasting network such as NPR, PRI, PBS or American Public Media with broadcasting job opportunities in Minnesota, California and Florida.

A national job bank for broadcast graduates is CareerPage.org, which lists several types of broadcasting job categories. If you know the specific area in which you want to work, then you can select from administrative, engineering, news, programming, promotions, production, or sales. Each type has both radio and television sub-categories. Additionally, a job seeker can select an individual state or search all states. A search for Colorado broadcasting jobs garnered a list of eight results posted since March 1, 2009, but results could be found as early as January 1, 2009. Contact information, as well as a job description, is included with each broadcasting job listing. Most jobs require experience in the broadcasting field, so accepting as many broadcasting internships as possible during your education is an advantage. Many times radio and television general managers will accept internships as qualified experience.

Another place to search for television and radio broadcasting jobs is JournalBroadcastingGroup.com where they accept internship applications as well as corporate, television and radio career opportunity applications. Although the corporate office is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Journal Broadcasting Group has both television and radio markets throughout the country from Alaska to Florida. Many broadcasting jobs are available through this valuable resource.

Do you speak another language fluently, such as Spanish? There is a growing market for Spanish speaking radio and television broadcast positions. Several networks across the country have Spanish radio stations (Los Angeles based KLVE 107.5 ) as well as television stations (Univision’s popular KMEX). According to the Washington Post, KMEX has a lead on other popular English news programs. Los Angeles is not the only city that carries Spanish broadcasting news and radio. One can also look to Miami, Florida and North Carolina where there are large populations of Spanish speaking Latinos. Ohio even has its Columbus based WXOL Radio Sol 1550 station with a strong Hispanic following. The market continues to grow for broadcasting jobs in both TV and radio.

Of course, broadcasting graduates can and should contact their local radio and television broadcast companies for available openings. Even if you are switching from radio broadcasting to TV broadcasting or vice versa, and have work experience, finding local stations is the best place to start searching for broadcasting jobs. Remember to always get a name and business card for future reference and also to give your name and number if you do not have a business card.

Since many radio and television stations have turned to the Internet to increase their listener base, broadcasting jobs are booming and will likely require additional broadcasting experience online in the coming decades. Use your knowledge and background to build your resume as well as your confidence in locating the most suitable broadcasting job in the 21st century.

Now not only can we take any YouTube or other video and quickly post it to our website, we can record video directly from sites such as MySpace without having to upload or transcode it. Pretty amazing stuff.

Even live Internet broadcasting has come a long way. Just 3 or 4 years ago, to do a quality live broadcast over the internet required expensive equipment and expensive tech people to hook up all the wires. Fortunately, like most things on the internet, technology just keeps getting better and better.

Here Are Ten Things To Look For In A Good Internet Broadcasting Solution:

Use a web-based solution: They store all your video files and upgrade the application on their end so you always have the best and latest and won’t clutter up your computer with large media files.

Make sure it can accommodate a variety of Internet connection speeds: Although live broadcasting is best suited for broadband connections, you should have the ability to adjust your upload speed to accommodate viewers with slower connections.

Make sure it can record your live broadcast for replay on demand: This is a biggy! Doing lengthy live broadcasts takes a lot of preparation and time and being able to send them out as links or embed them on your website is critical to leveraging your time.

Make sure it uses flash technology: Flash is a slightly lower quality format than Windows Media, but flash is installed on 95% of all computers and is compatible with both Macs and PCs, guaranteeing your broadcast can be viewed by the most people.

Make sure you have adequate broadcasting time: 60 minutes is usually enough to get your point across, but I’ve seen solutions that offer 8 hours of broadcasting time.

Make sure the solution has interactive communication tools: This means the ability for your audience to interact with you, typically via text chat while they are watching you in live video.

Image /slide / graphic display during broadcasts: Being able to support your live video feed with supporting pictures and slides is paramount to a good presentation and any good broadcasting solution should allow this.

Plenty of storage: Having ample storage to park all your media is important. Five to ten gigs is usually plenty for the average user.

Ability to embed recorded broadcasts on your website or blog. Make sure the solution generates the necessary code to embed recorded broadcasts. Also make sure the system can generate a link that you can send out in your marketing collateral.

Customizable interface: Being able to use your own logos and banners in your live broadcast is important for messaging and creating a maintaining your brand. Also make sure your audience can link to external websites directly from your live broadcast.

What Equipment Do You Need?

These days, a broadband Internet connection, web cam and a broadcast solution provider is all you need. If you have a digital video camera (the kind you might take to the beach to film the kids!) you get better quality, but a web cam will work too. Using a web cam with a built in microphone is best in my experience.

What Can You Do With Live Broadcasting

Broadcasting gives you the ability to create your own mini-TV station to quickly deliver unlimited live broadcasts and even archive them for later playback.

6 Great Ideas for Your Live or Archived Broadcasts

Your email signature: Include a link to your latest recorded broadcast in your email signature giving you viral marketing reach.

Monetize Your Talent: If you have expertise in a subject that people are willing to pay for, require payment prior to accessing your live or archived broadcast. This can easily be done through PayPal or other payment services.

Website welcome video: Introduce your website with video and explain what your visitors will find on your site and most important how to buy your products or services.

Send To Your Email List: Now instead of just plain text, you can add more exciting video to your online campaigns by announcing new events, products or services.

Online Meetings: When you can broadcast live, you have the ability to talk live to your employees, vendors and business partners world-wide. This is an extremely powerful way to communicate and if your business is large with multiple office locations, broadcasting can help solidify your company goals.

Constituent Outreach: If you are in politics and answer to your constituents, having the ability to broadcast live is essential. Use it for remote town hall meetings, student question and answer sessions and much more.

Final Thoughts

It is unbelievable to me that with today’s technology, anyone can become an Internet broadcaster. Imagine being able to sit down in your home or office, login to a website, click a few links and be broadcasting LIVE video over the Internet in a matter of minutes. And as more and more people move towards broadband Internet connections, the likelihood of live broadcasting and online video services becoming a fixture world wide is almost guaranteed.

The world of broadcasting may look glamorous, but behind that news anchor or radio disc jockey are many, many people that make what you see on the television or hear on the radio possible. So, what does the broadcasting industry consists of? Radio and television stations and networks that create content or acquire the right to broadcast taped television and radio programs. Networks transmit their signals from broadcasting studios via satellite signals to local stations or cable distributors. Broadcast signals then travel over cable television lines, satellite distribution systems, or the airwaves from a station’s transmission tower to the antennas of televisions and radios.

Radio and television stations and networks broadcast a variety of programs, such as national and local news, talk shows, music programs, movies, other entertainment, and advertisements. Stations produce some of these programs, most notably news programs, in their own studios.

This is a competitive industry, particularly in large metropolitan areas. How can you be successful in this field? By having a college degree in broadcasting or a related field, and relevant experience, such as work at college radio and television stations or internships at professional stations. Many entry-level positions are at smaller broadcast stations so you must be willing to change employers, and sometimes relocate, in order to be successful.
